Samford Show 2005

Well, we went to Samford Show today and a good day was had by all.

We started off with a couple of rides for the kids, to make sure they got one, the girl went on this bungy-trampoline thing and the boys opted for the ferris wheel.

Then we hit the Jam stall for some of John Keating’s jams and relishes. Yummy stuff - we try to get some every year. This year we got a Strawberry Champagne Jam, some Wholegrain Macadamia Mustard, Rosella Jam (of course - we always get that) and Macadamia Lemon Spread.
Mmmmm…

Then we went through the prizes - lots of great flowers, vegies, art work and photos. Unfortunately we never reached the handcrafts as smallest got bored before then.

Then the kids tried their hand at archery. I don’t know who the group running the archery were, but they were obviously medievalists. I meant to ask, but was busy assisting and encouraging children.

We had Poffertjes (Dutch Pancakes) for afternoon tea, except the girl, who wanted boring old hot chips. I really want to grab a plate for cooking those pancakes if I ever spot one. A poffertjes stall was selling the plates once - I should have grabbed one then.

The kids had rides on some shetlands - pathetic. The stall was basically run by a 10-year old and we ended up leading the kids ourselves.

Then we listened to some country music (”I come from the land down under” is country? Men At Work would do some live version of turning in their grave!) around a bonfire before the fireworks. Excellent.

Samford Show is a damn fine day. You should go next time.
